"Synthetic Passion"

I have one dictionary in my home...the Concise Oxford English Dictionary. It is one that was bought by my British husband who, while he was alive, really loved reading and was fascinated by new words and their meanings. It is well worn, and the cover has almost entirely separated from the spine, even though this printed version is only a few years old (printed in 2002). I didn't realize he had used it so much!

I looked up the following words in this dictionary: 

• Synthetic: "made by chemical synthesis, especially to imitate a natural product; not genuine; unnatural"
• Passion: "strong and barely controllable emotion ; an intense enthusiasm for something"
• Essence: "the intrinsic nature of something; the quality which determines something's character; a property or group of properties of something without which it would not exist or be what it is"

I was wondering if it's possible for someone (the student) to adopt a passion for something with the same intensity and love as the originator (the creator) of that idea or thing.

No matter how I look at it, the student will never be able to capture the very "essence" of the creator's passion...at best, it would be a "synthetic passion." 

Each one of us is very unique in that we have our own beliefs, feelings, experiences, knowledge, creative abilities, foresight, hindsight, strengths, weaknesses, and so on. To become forever trapped in the pursuit of someone else's passion means foregoing one's own true passion...in any event, it would only be synthetic, forced, unnatural, and unsuccessful.

Having said all of this leads me to conclude that with the passing of a head of a company, such as Steve Jobs, change will, no doubt, occur at some point...what form that will take remains to be seen...and just how successful that change will be will depend on the "authentic passion" and path taken by the new creator.
